2012--Carolina and California

These are a couple of images of the work I've been doing in Don Serio's Solar Technologies class.  I also went to an amazing lecture by L. Trouille on super massive black holes in the center of galaxies.  She has a blog called Women in Astronomy (http://womeninastronomy.blogspot.com).

I've been learning a lot here at the
John T. Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies (CRS) (http://www.csupomona.edu/~crs/) at
California State Polytechnic University at Pomona.

Back in school...in Southern California!

When I first got to Pomona, I got to work with Jim and Duc harvesting dragon fruit.

This is a cool view of Mt. Baldy.  It's covered in snow now, even though it's been in the 70s at CRS the last few days.

Anyway, a lot has happened since the last time I posted in January!

Here's a rock wall I did back at Penland.

This is the aviary we built...

Another rock wall...

A wind storm took out the greenhouse at Penland, so we had to rebuild that...

Here's the dye garden at Penland...

We also planted flax for the paper folks...

Gardens at home...

Lots of sheet mulching...thanks to the rooster (The Dude)

Saved some killer Tiger's Eye beans...

Got a bunch of honey, split a hive, and got a free hive from the state (thanks Rick and Alice Harty!!)

Of course we had to make some mead!!

The dark one on the left is Poplar honey from the spring and the lighter one on the right is wildflower honey from the summer

These are slipstraw houses at Mateo's house...

Moth season...

Composting toilets for the Celo Permaculture Gathering...

This is a rain garden Bronwyn May helped me design and build...sniff.  I miss Cackalack!

But, time to hit the road...

Sunset on the Pacific...

What a welcome!!

A lot of the gardens here are surrounded by barbed wire...it's a different world.
